Introducing Miss Eleanor Parr

I wanted to share with you the antique sampler I was lucky enough to buy today.

I am very grateful to Marsha who gave me useful advice and guided me with the value.

I have always preferred to stitch a sampler rather than to buy an original but I could not resist these two ladies. I must think up some names for them - any suggestions.

The verse appealed too.

The  border is a feast for the eyes with the brightly feathered birds.

I have tried to find Miss Parr on ancestry and could only find one Eleanor born in 1856 but alas not in October. This could be her married name. I would love to find out more about her.

Your sampler is wonderful the birds in the border are my favorite! What a great purchase! As for names for the girls not sure, but one could be Scarlet.

This is a marvelous sampler!
Wasn't it fun bidding?
And even more fun winning.

The bird border is unique to me.
I adore how the girl in white is leading the other girl down the garden path. The girl in red isn't quite sure about it.

The names Lucy and Ethel come to mind.

Love it Nicola! What a great purchase -- congratulations! I, too, am drawn to the birds -- so colorful and the two ladies are charming. I agree with Carmen that one should be named Scarlet...perhaps another name from one of the many SL samplers you have done?

Miss Scarlet is a definite and so fitting for this year.

You must be thrilled, it is so exciting to bring home those 2 girls and welcome them into Trewoon. Miss Scarlet suits one well, how about Faith for the other? Where in your beautiful home will they live?! xx

My my my Nicola ... such a charming sampler ... the little girls seem to be captivating all of us!! Congratulations on your winning bid. As much as I like stitching reproduction samplers, one day I would love to own an original ... maybe once our girls' university tuition payments are complete ;)

Oh my goodness, what a beautiful sampler. How wonderful that you now own this stunning piece. Everything about it is perfect. It would be so wonderful if somebody could reproduce it. How about Miss Scarlet and Miss Mellie from one of my favourite books "Gone With The Wind" or Jane Austen's Eleanor and Marianne from Sense and Sensibility. - Sandra.

Congratulations Nicola, Eleanor is stunning. A lot of detail and I love the birds. Attic Needlework is offering an English chart done by Sarah Parr 1825. It would be neat if the "girls" were related.

I forgot to ask, it looks like a big sampler, what is the size?

Jonette said...

Lovely sampler. Love the birds. The girls could be Nicola and Marsha.

So glad it came to live with you.

A beautiful, unique sampler. The
verse would draw me in, as well.
Fate knows where to place these treasures and so glad this one has
one to live with you. Wouldn't it
be something if that Sarah Parr
sampler had a connection to yours? The background on it might bring
you some answers. Just love following your blog....

Congratulations on scoring such a pretty sampler. The sisters look cozy as sisters can - definitely brings to mind Jane Austen - if not Elinor and Marianne, how about Jane and Cassandra?

I hear the cheer for reproducing for the masses - good idea!

LOVE your new antique Nicola - it is just exquisite and so unique. I love Miss Scarlet and I think Miss Mellie is perfect. Of course I am oh so very southern myself and while no one ever calls me Mellie - they do sometimes call me Mel - take care and enjoy that beauty - Melody
