Elizabeth Mitchell WIP and Seventeen Sailors WIP

I had hoped to have EM finished by now but nearly there. I have been away for a few days with my husband on an orca watching trip. We didn't see any orca but saw some lovely pods of dolphins. I took my other WIP with me - Seventeen Sailors - it seemed really appropriate to stitch that whilst at sea!

Well done on your progress Elizabeth, may Seventen Sailors always remind you of your Santander trip with John.

Elizabeth: I have wanted to do Seventeen Sailors for years because my husband, son and grandson had served in the Navy and in the year 2000, the U.S.S. Cole was bombed and seventeen of our brave sailors were slaughtered.

I have the names of the sailors who were killed and I thought it would make a nice remembrance of them to place their names below the sampler. I wrote Marsha about it and she very graciously said she would help me decide the size of the linen I would need, but I never followed up on it. You brought it to mind and I may just do it.

Thank you for jolting my memory.

JoAnn - that would be a lovely thing to do with the sampler.

I remember going whale watching in Monterey California, with my sister in-law. We were out for hours and only saw a seagull on a float board.

Your sampler is coming along nicely.

Elizabeth is so pretty with the flowers. Great new start to remember you trip by! I like to stitch samplers to remember a place I have been to as well, a Saxony sampler for my trip to Germany, a quaker for the UK, and I am working on a Vierlande to remember my time in Hamburg. A special way to personalize and remember a special time in our lives. :)

EM is looking lovely and much brighter than what I recall from the photo on the chart too. Seventeen Sailors is another chart that I have. I should hunt it down and see about starting her this year.

Even though you didn't see orcas, it must've been fun to see the dolphins. I would imagine them jumping up out of the water a lot as they seem to be such playful creatures.

Lovely progress and I love both of these samplers. I've gone on several whale watching trips -- primarily off the coast of New England and we've had great luck seeing those mighty creatures. Also basking sharks which are HUGE -- my husband loved those...me not so much. I think I need to get 17 Sailors.....
